How an SMS QR code works

The code contains your number and message in the standard SMSTO: format. Scanning it opens the phone's messaging app with both filled in. Nothing is sent until the person taps Send, so they stay in control.

Ideas for SMS QR codes

  • Keyword opt-ins — “Text OFFERS to join our deals list.”
  • Contests and polls at events and on packaging.
  • Appointment requests for clinics, salons and tutors.
  • Support for customers who prefer texting to calling.

SMS or WhatsApp?

SMS works on every phone, even without internet or apps. If most of your customers use WhatsApp — as in India — a WhatsApp QR code is usually better, because replies are free and you can send photos and documents.
